The next LBBC Council lunch open to LBBC members only will take place on 13 December.

Our speaker will be Chris Thornton who this August completed seven years working as the North Africa Manager of the Geneva-based ‘Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue’, a conflict resolution organisation.  Having worked on Libya since 2011 and travelled extensively throughout the country, he was eminently qualified to work on this year’s National Conference Process (which is part of the UN Action Plan for Libya) and on the NCP report which was launched by the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative on 9 November.     Chris’s experience and wide circle of Libyan contacts in and beyond the main centres have led him to conclude that,

“The most effective level of governance in Libya is at the local level, and there are pockets of functioning and indeed thriving communities throughout the country. This provides opportunities for mutually beneficial investment: the communities benefit and stability is reinforced, a good example is set for others and investments prosper”.

Chris will expand on this on 13 December and on the implied opportunities he sees for British business.
