LBBC members are invited to join a business delegation to Benghazi from 12 – 16 June 2023.
On behalf of LBBC Chairman Peter Millett and the LBBC Board, I have the pleasure to invite you to join a business delegation to Benghazi from 12 – 16 June 2023. Peter will lead the delegation which will be the LBBC’s first to Benghazi. With the support of LBBC members there and our contacts in other local Libyan organisations, the introductions we make and delegates’ discussions with Benghazi’s business leaders will open the way to relationships and partnerships of value to both sides.
Benghazi is Libya’s second largest city after Tripoli and a major commercial centre. Several Libyan national organisations have their headquarters there, including the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO), the Al Brega Oil Marketing Company, the Man Made River Authority (MMRA) and the Bank of Commerce and Development (BCD). The city is served by Benina international airport and a major port through which it imports foodstuffs and manufactured goods. Local manufacturing includes food processing, supported by fishing and the region’s agricultural sector, and construction materials, not least cement. There is a thriving retail sector with malls offering fashion products, perfumes and electronics. The education and healthcare sectors include Benghazi University and the Benghazi Medical Centre as well as private education and healthcare establishments. There is an active private sector business community.
The delegation programme will accordingly include calls on the Benghazi Chamber of Commerce, the oil and gas industry (including training) and other sectors relevant to delegates who join our mission be they finance, food stuffs, education, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, transport or other business opportunities Benghazi has to offer. I hope you will join us and will let me know if there are particular people or companies you would like to meet.
The delegate fee for UK companies to join is £1500 and includes attendance at all events and meetings including lunches, a reception and dinners, as well as hotel accommodation for 3 nights at the Berenice Hotel, travel insurance and all in-country transport, including airport transfers. It does not include flights and security clearance into Benghazi although the LBBC will make security clearance arrangements on behalf of the delegate.
The delegation will travel into Benghazi on 12 June. The Programme will include meetings over 3 full days on 13, 14 and 15 June. The delegation will depart Benghazi on 16 June.
Members based in Libya who wish to attend the programme should contact events@lbbc.org.uk.
Places on the delegation are now only open to local delegates.
